Siem Reap, Dam Dek, Kompong Phluk

Woo! Angie and I deplaned on the tarmack of the Siem Reap airport and hopped in the tuk tuk from our cute Khmer-owned guesthouse a few minutes away. We have an adorable room... it even came equipped with a mini fridge and lizards crawling on the walls!!! Awesome!

On Sunday we explored Siem Reap,; I stood on a pile of used syringe=s, was offered opium, and drank far too much winter melon tea. I love the traffic here! Our guesthouse owner is really nice, and has been super helpful to us.

On Monday we went out to Angkor Wat at 5 for the sunrise, which was magical. I can't even describe what it's like. After Angkor wat, Ravi (our driver) took us to some other temples (my favourite was Bayon), saw some children begging which aparrently broke Angie's herart, drove around lots more, then headed back for a shower, food, and more town wandering.

Tuesday was also Angkor Wat at sunrise, then a fantastic tuk tuk ride to Banteay Srey, my new favourite. On the way, Angie said that she was nervous, and I assumed that she was takling about monkeys, but it turns out that she was nervous of machetes or machine guns or something. The temple was gorgeous...empty of tourists, but was by far the most beautiful temple of them all. The carving on it was unreal!!! After Banteay Srey, we went back to Angkor and saw some more beautiful temples, ate some delicious thai food, drank some more beer on the patio, and chilled out a bit.

Wednesday, today, was probably the best day yet. Ravi topok us way way way out to Dam Dek (where he went to high school),l we met his brother, we saw the most gorgeous temple that was all colapsing but supported by the trees. Our guide took uys through, and we were like billygoats climbing up over the walls, onto the roof, down into the different chambers, and across where the moats used to be. Then we went to see the floating villages where Ravi's parents live... it was so so so great! We had a beautiful blue and white boat, Ravi told us a Khmer legend about a mountain, we got off the boat and went to his mom and dad's (they had a piglet (...actually 3!!! PLus basins of fish and eels!!!) in their floating village-on-stilts house!!!

A lot of really cool things have happened but I'll have to wait until I'm not at a computer with sticky keys to type them...

Tomorrow... Phnom Penh!
