Steve and I were on our way to see Deerhoof, but got a little lost as we had a.) lost the poster advertising the place/time/date, and b.) did not really look on a map for how to find this teensy town in North Carolina (Carrboro, if you are interested). So anyway, we stopped at a gas station, and when I went in, there was a po-leece standing at the counter, and he looked like he was holding something in one hand behind the counter. He looked busy with whatever he was hiding there, so I waited in line for the cashier.
Kathryn: Uh, I'm looking for where Deerhoof is playing in Carrboro. It's at a place with a cat on the sign. Can you help me?
Cashier: I really don't know. Try asking him (motions to po-leece)
K: (looks at po-leeceman)
Po-leece: (looks at K inquisitively). yes?
K:Uh, I'm looking for where Deerhoof is playing in Carrboro. It's at a place with a cat on the sign. Can you help me?
P: (gives directions). Why didn't you ask me first?
K: you looked like you were busy holding something there.
P: (walks out from the counter). His hand is in deep in his pocket.
Anyway. We found the place with the cat (Cat's Cradle), found a place to park, and went in. Deerhoof was AMAZING. I had a wicked time, and so did Steve... then after the show, we drove for 14 hours to Canada.
